Stop cooking your skin

From a recommendation on Chalene Johnson’s blog I tried a self tanner. In the past I’ve used a couple other ones but did not see results like I did with this one. I bought the Loreal Sublime Bronze self tanner lotion at Target last week for around $8 and applied it about 5 times so far. Chalene recommends the Loreal Sublime Bronze Gublee but like she said it’s hard to find and I didn’t.
Now if you’ve seen me after using it and think “She doesn’t look tan to me!” Remember how pale I was to begin with. Casper the ghost looked tan next to me. I figured I would try it out in the winter so that if I screwed myself up too badly no one would have to know.
I put it on when I got out of the shower, waited a minute or so and then got dressed. After putting it on it leaves your skin slimmery for the rest of the day and I am glad that my hands were not stained, I was a little worried about that. But it did stain some of my nails but after a day or two that went away. It doesn’t have that strong “tan” smell, which if you’ve used a self tanner or any kind of tanning lotion before then you know what I’m talking about.

I know, I know you’d much rather go sit in a tanning bed which will provide super speedy results. I myself have been known fry my precious skin in the past (it’s been about a year since my last visit!) but no more. After taking HS 201 at OU last semester I learned that skin cancer is the number one type of cancer in the United States. NUMBER ONE PEOPLE! But on the bright, but not sun burning bright, side there are steps that can be taken to prevent skin cancer. Common sense and every doctor is yelling it, stop using tanning beds!

Some Facts from The Skin Cancer Foundation:

“Frequent tanners using new high-pressure sunlamps may receive as much as 12 times the annual UVA dose compared to the dose they receive from sun exposure.”

“People who use tanning beds are 2.5 times more likely to develop squamous cell carcinoma and 1.5 times more likely to develop basal cell carcinoma.”

“In 1994, a Swedish study found that women 18-30 years old who visited tanning parlors 10 times or more a year had seven times greater incidence of melanoma than women who did not use tanning salons.”

So cancer doesn’t scare you? How about aging? Everyone who uses tanning beds will in the end look much OLDER because their skin is aging. That does not sound nice to me.

If you are now wondering what your options are then I would say give a self tanner a try. Just recently someone recommended self tanning wipes to me, I am about to look into that now, I’ll let you know how it goes. If not, then embrace the beauty of your pale skin. Come on the sexy vampires in “Twilight” can rock it!

Here is a helpful link I wish I would have read earlier so I would have a couple less streaks-
